Playin’ the Blues
Blues is absolutely a great genre of music for guitarist! Blues Guitar is foundational. Much of rock-n-roll and jazz has it’s roots in the blues. There is nothing quite like bending a note and getting all you can out of it. It’s a great feeling!
Rhythm and the 12 Bar Blues
A 12 bar blues is a standard format that a guitar player needs to be comfortable with. The Jim Sutton Institute of Guitar Blues Grooves Series is an in depth study into that area. These are graduated in difficulty with Blues Grooves 1 being a level 1 study. In other words, a beginner guitar level. Blues Guitar Grooves 2 is a little bit more difficult than 1, Blues Grooves 3 is a little bit more difficult than 2. Blues Guitar Grooves 4 brings you up to an intermediate level.
Blues Lead Guitar
The guitar is well adapted for playing the blues. It is an extremely versatile instrument that has a wealth of techniques that can be used. Bends, slides, hammer pulls, pull offs, palm mutes, harmonics, and on and on. These are tremendous for expressing how the player is feeling. I love it when I see a player get in the zone, kick back, close their eyes, and be in the moment.
Blues Lead Guitar 1 is a valuable study. It builds skills using a study method that can be applied in other situations as well. Most importantly, it establishes a method that shows you how to develop your own unique style quickly. This is a study that should be reviewed frequently.
Blues Lead Guitar 2, Blues Lead Guitar 3, and Blues Lead Guitar 4 expand on the foundation that the first study established.
