Jim Sutton Institute of Guitar
The Jim Sutton Institute of Guitar was established in 1984 with the idea of creating a cohesive guitar skill development experience. All of the studies have been designed to progressively work together.
Our goal is to help musicians whether they are beginner, intermediate, or advance, get materials they need to help move them forward toward their aspirations.
It is necessary to build skills and knowledge, but we’d like to go beyond just playing notes, or songs. The next step is to take that into creative expression. Even so, the real goal is to go beyond creative expression and land in what is sometimes referred to as the pocket, or the zone. That is the goal and the motivation.
We have three main Course studies and numerous Supplementary Lessons. This allows us to pick up and help guitarists move forward from wherever their current skill and knowledge level is set. Everyone is individual.
We have Questionnaire and Profile forms which help you evaluate which studies best fit your situation. We can help you with that as well if you like.
We can hold the flashlight and say “look this way”, but you need to start with the end goal in mind.
